According to Xenopedia (an “Alien V Predator” themed Wikipedia), The Weyland Yutani Company is headquartered in Tokyo, London, San Francisco, the Sea of Tranquility, and Thedus. Their major activities are research & development, deep space transport, synthetic manufacture, terraforming, extrasolar colonization, weapons manufacture, and xenomorph (alien species) procurement and research.

Using the video “Weyland Yutani Corporate Timeline,” posted by Alien Theory on Youtube, I’ve outlined some milestones along the company’s historical timeline that I feel pertain to Ariana Grande’s music videos, which also happen canonically within the Alien Universe. Here is the timeline, along with my analysis of her music videos, as well as the parallels to this fictional canon that we see in non-fictional reality.


Weyland Yutani Corporate Timeline:

“September, 2029 - Europe’s Nuclear Research Co-Operative CERN runs out of government funding. Not yet merged into Weyland-Yutani, Weyland acquires the organization as well as their largest particle accelerator and other facilities.”

“April, 2032 - Weyland acquires four of the largest existing defense conglomerates in the world. These major acquisitions significantly bolsters multinational defense, security, and aerospace technology holdings.”

“May, 2035 - The National Science Foundation (NSF) lifts restrictions on the commercial use of David Androids.”

“June, 2135 - David 3 - After Android regulations are lifted, the third generation David is deployed internally in order to test human acceptance of cybernetic individuals. Results are encouraging.”


The “34+35” music video very clearly depicts lab scientists activating a cybernetic version of Ariana Grande, her “synthetic” Weyland Yutani robot doppelganger.

In the music video for “Break Free” (2014), it appears as though Weyland Yutani premises and cyborgs are depicted in her music video. Although not explicitly stated anywhere in the video, the symbolism alludes strongly to Weyland-Yutani Canon and their known developed technology.

“What you are about to witness is scientifically authentic. It is just one step ahead of present day reality and two steps ahead of present day sexiness. Prepare yourself to attempt to conceive an inconceivable outer space adventure. Brace yourself for something so fantastically fantastical you’ll soil yourself from intergalactic excitement.”


Weyland Yutani Corporate Timeline:

“August, 2042 - Weyland Industries is awarded a contract to build and maintain HD5512 B CLASS E Correctional Unit. Prisoners from Earth and other facilities are successfully relocated and many have since been rehabilitated into society.”

According to Xenopedia, there were varying uses for planetary colonies. “On BG-386, inhabitants from the planet’s civilian colony were apparently abducted for use in research, often under the pretense of being “promoted” to a new position elsewhere on the planet.”

The “Break Free” music video depicts Ariana appearing to work for one of these space colonies, emerging from the facility on the surface of a planet where prisoners were held captive, but throwing her badge on the ground as if she was abandoning her post. She then proceeds to break prisoners out of their cages while fighting off (and killing) extraterrestrial prison guards.

Xenopedia: “Despite tight security, typically enforced by Weyland-Yutani’s combat androids, these research facilities were notorious for their containment failures and outbreaks, events that usually led to a huge loss of life amongst staff (and any civilians unlucky enough to be caught in harm’s way)...”


Ariana is even seen using the Violet Flame of Zadkiel. Zadiel is an Archangel in Jewish Mysticism, known as Kabbalah. Ariana has openly discussed her dedication to studying Kabbalah, and even adorns a red string bracelet on her left wrist for spiritual protection, a Kabbalistic tradition, in the video for “Break Free.”

The music video then goes on to feature a battle between Ariana and large combat androids (that look like transformers) which eventually use their projectile grasping claw feature to kidnap Ariana.

These combat androids, called Berserkers, are also mentioned on Xenopedia:

“Use: Xenomorph-clearing operations. Each Berserker unit consists of a heavily armed and armored combat exo-suit encasing a human core, which is sealed inside and hard-wired into the suits control systems via a neurological control system. During missions, the human operator is fed with a potent cocktail of stimulant drugs that renders them hyper-aggressive and essentially unstoppable, at the cost of physical and mental deterioration.”

“Berserkers are mentioned within the ‘Alien: The Roleplaying Game,’ with the handbook making mention of rumors of Weyland-Yutani covertly developing ‘drug-controlled psychopathic cyborgs.’”

Weyland Yutani Corporate Timeline:

“2122 - First recorded contact with Xenomorph XX121; Contact recorded on LV-425 and the USCSS Nostromo. Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley is recorded as the lone survivor of this encounter. Further notes on Ripley’s Deposition are available upon request.”

Remember, this is the name of the ship featured in Ariana’s “34+35” music video, which leads me to believe that Ariana’s character (or perhaps her synthetic cyborg doppelganger) could be the “lone survivor” of the encounter, or Officer Ripley.

“2356 - DNA samples from a Xenomorph-implanted human are rediscovered by the USM. Many years are dedicated to a cloning project proposing to replicate a viable xenomorph host specimen.”

The imagery from Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga’s “Rain On Me” music video aligns very closely with the imagery depicting this cloning project in the Alien Theory Weyland-Yutani Corporate Timeline. Perhaps “Rain on Me” is a video depicting a cloning project within the Alien V Predator Universe (just a possible thought).

In “Men In Black International” (2019), there is a scene where a character has just entered the MIB headquarters and is overwhelmed by the commotion. She looks up at the screen above her, which has a photo of Ariana Grande and reads: “Alien Surveillance System. Species: Charnock”

According to “Alien Species Wiki” (a similar platform to Xenopedia, but encompassing various franchises aside from the Alien Universe):

“Though peaceful, the Relserks are in a conflict with another species called the Charnocks and have been targets of terrorist attacks. Due to the large population of Relserks in Manhattan, the area became a target of a Charnock who plotted to use a Void Density Core to destroy the city.”


Weyland Yutani Corporate Timeline:

“2381 - Most recent recorded contact with Xenomorph aboard USM Auriga. Further collation of data is currently in progress.”

While the Canon of Ariana’s music videos is undeniably happening inside of the Alien V Predator Universe, it’s interesting to note that the Weyland-Yutani Corporate Timeline is just one perspective on this Universe, as the franchise is wide sweeping and has debated opinions among fans.

While the connection drawn between the “34+35” music video happening on the Weyland-Yutani Nostromo ship was explicit, the rest are all insinuations, which leaves this theory open to interpretation and further exploration. As Ariana Grande continues to produce more music videos (probably after she completes her role as Guhlinda in Wicked), we will hopefully see more clues to piece the story of her music video “canon” together more wholly.
