Jennifer Anniston + Justin Theroux: Married during Venus Rx
The Astrology of their 2015 wedding and 2018 divorce
Video published June 16, 2023
Jennifer Anniston and Justin Theroux got married while Venus was Retrograde (Rx) in Leo (in August 2015). They got divorced in February of 2018. Venus is going to be stationing Rx in Leo again this summer, almost the same exact dates (only off by a couple of days).
Astrologers, myself included, typically do not advise getting married during Venus Rx. Venus is the planet that rules love, romance, and marriage specifically. When a planet stations Rx, you’re forced to reflect on the areas of life that the planet rules over, and the expression of that planet is almost expressed “backwards.”
Venus is also the planet that rules money/financial resources. Venus Rx is a period to reflect on your finances and rebalance your books, so scheduling a wedding during a Venus Rx period is not conducive towards that. If you’re really well-off financially and going over budget isn’t a huge risk, then Venus Rx might not be the worst thing. But, for the average person who is watching their dollar when they are planning their wedding, I would advise waiting until Venus is direct.
Since Jennifer Anniston is such a kind person who loves TikTokers so much, we’re going to be reading the astrology of her wedding and her divorce from Justin Theroux.
I know that this looks like a lot (referring to the annotated birth chart), but don’t worry, I’m going to break it all down. So here (on the inner ring) we have Jen’s chart, then we have Justin’s chart laid over it, and the wedding chart in the third outer ring.
HIS VENUS AND SOLAR RETURNS IN LEO ON DAY OF WEDDING
The day of their wedding, Venus was stationed Rx in Leo (that’s why the number is red, because it’s Rx). Justin Theroux has a Leo Venus, meaning that it was his Venus return.
He also has a Leo Sun (in it’s Domicile, or home sign), and it was Leo season–so it was also his Solar Return. The wedding was only 5 days after his birthday.
Jennifer Anniston has zero Leo placements. It is crickets in her tenth house (10H). So that, right away, tells me that this wedding looks like it was for Justin, by Justin, and about Justin. The Sun is a spotlight, and Leo Sun is the main character, the center of attention.
Even though Venus was Rx, this Venus return for him is very much him like: “Look! I got a wife!”
HER NODAL OPPOSITION ON DAY OF WEDDING
Now looking at Aries, another fire sign. She has a lot going on [in Aries]. She has Saturn “fallen” in Aries, Venus in “detriment” in Aries, and her North Node and Chiron conjunct at 0° Aries. The day of the wedding, the South Node was in Aries, only 2° off from her Natal North Node, meaning it was her Nodal Opposition.
This can be a difficult transit. It feels like you’re going backwards on your life path. People actually mistake this aspect with the Saturn return. This happens around the age of 27, while the Saturn return happens around age 28-30. The “27 club,” or the group of people who all died at age 27, most of the time they are experiencing their Nodal Opposition.
HIS LUNAR RETURN IN ARIES ON DAY OF WEDDING
For Justin, he has an Aries moon, and the day of [their wedding] was an Aries moon, so it was his Lunar return (as well as his Solar return). Again, this to me is just reading “all about Justin.”
TRANSITING SATURN (28° SCORPIO) CONJUNCT HIS JUPITER (27° SCORPIO) AND HER MARS (23° SCORPIO) ON DAY OF WEDDING
The last significant transit I noticed for the day of their wedding was this Saturn in Scorpio, which was lined up with Justin’s Jupiter in Scorpio, and Jen’s Mars in Scorpio (which is in it’s domicile, or home sign).
Saturn rules limitations and restrictions. Jupiter is a free-spirited and adventurous energy that wants room to explore, expand, and grow. Whereas Mars talks about targeted, directed action. When it’s in the fixed sign of Scorpio, it can be a very stubborn energy that does not want things to change because they’re nostalgic about the *way things used to be.*
That difference between the reactive, and “immature” energy of Mars compared to the very wise and “mature” energy of Jupiter… it’s very possible that this synastry right here is what led to the disagreement and eventually caused the marriage to not work out.
TRANSITING JUPITER (~22° SCORPIO) CONJUNCT HIS JUPITER (27° SCORPIO) AND HER MARS (23° SCORPIO) AT TIME OF DIVORCE (HIS JUPITER RETURN)
Looking at approximately the time of the divorce (Feb 14, 2018), Jupiter was transiting Scorpio. So it was his Jupiter return. This is the opportunity that allowed him to really reclaim his freedom and break free from the limitations of marriage so he could continue on his own personal journey of life without his ex-wife.
HIS NODAL OPPOSITION IN LEO AT TIME OF DIVORCE
If we go back and look at Leo, but for the divorce, we see that this time it’s Justin’s Nodal Opposition (Transiting North Node in 14° Leo conjunct his Natal South Node in 14° Leo). So, this separation, even though it granted him freedom, it probably was a difficult thing for him that made him feel like he was moving backwards, taking a step backwards in his life path.
TRANSITING SATURN (6° CAPRICORN) CONJUNCT HER NATAL JUNO (1° CAPRICORN) AT TIME OF DIVORCE
Meanwhile, Saturn, which symbolizes the end of that relationship, or the separation, was transiting Jen’s natal Juno. Juno is the asteroid that rules committed partnerships and specifically your spouse.
So, it’s obviously not everyone–of course there are people who get married during Venus Rx that stay married. But, if you’re looking for your wedding to go smoothly and set a good tone for the rest of your marriage, then wait until Venus is stationed direct.
